Communion Beliefs and Practices
Communion is celebrated every Sunday.
Redeemer Lutheran Church practices closed communion and believes that Holy Communion is a gift from Christ to His Church. The apostle Paul wrote, "Let a man examine himself, and so eat of the bread and drink of the cup. For anyone who eats and drinks without discerning the body, eats and drinks judgment upon himself." (1 Corinthians 11: 28-29). Out of loving concern for the communicants and from our understanding of the Holy Scriptures and the Lutheran Confessions, we request that those who commune here:
1. Have been baptized in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit
2. Have been instructed in the truth of the Holy Scriptures as taught in the Lutheran Confessions, who have been confirmed in this Lutheran faith, and who confess the same doctrines that are taught in this congregation, holding membership in a congregation of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod.
3. Believe that in this sacrament the real body and blood of Christ are truly distributed to them and orally received by them, bestowing on them the forgiveness of sins, life, and salvation.
4. Repent of their sins, and desire to receive God's forgiveness in this holy meal.
Guests at our services, before receiving the sacrament, are requested to affirm these facts with our pastor. Thank you for honoring our practice. If you are looking for a church home, would like to learn more about the Christian Faith, please speak to pastor about our membership classes.
